Technology in the Service of Life
Dr. Rodrigo de Souza is a cardiac surgeon who performs heart and lung transplants as well as other procedures. He specializes in using cutting-edge technology for minimally invasive and robotic surgeries, reducing recovery time compared with traditional approaches. He has particular expertise in endoscopic heart surgery (techniques performed through small incisions using a tiny camera and special instruments), minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting (a surgery that improves blood flow to the heart when vessels have narrowed) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (a technique that uses a machine outside the body to support the work of the heart and lungs).
De Souza earned his medical degree at the Universidade Gama Filho in Brazil. He completed a general surgery residency at Hospital Municipal Cardoso Fontes, followed by a cardiovascular surgery fellowship at Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná. He speaks fluent Portuguese and is board-certified by the Brazilian College of Surgeons and Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery. He has been practicing for more than 10 years.
